Google just updated on the Gmail app for Android and through it introduced a new anti-phishing security check tool.
Now whenever you receive an email that features a suspicious link, Gmail will promptly display a warning in order to alert you the link might not be safe to follow.
Google clarifies that some of the affected emails might not necessarily be dangerous, but the step has been taken in order to raise security levels.
Phishing can be described as a type of scam where users are tricked into revealing their personal details by a source that appears to be legitimate. The update comes after the recent Gmail phishing scam which duped users with what appeared to be valid Google Docs links inside Gmail.
Google says that the new security feature will be rolled out gradually to all users of the email app, but warns it might take up to three days before anyone can see the feature.
While we salute Google’s initiative, we can’t help but point out there are still lots of other ways to steal account details stolen online. To prevent personal info theft, remember to always double check, if you are unsure of a website or an email. Also, don’t forget that respectable companies will never ask for passwords, so never ever provide that information.
