Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare and its free-to-play mecha combat charges onto the Play Store

Earlier this month we learned that Bandai Namco would bring its collection-based Gunpla battle game to Android before the summer was over, and at the time an iOS listing offered a clue that August 21st would be the expected release date. It would appear that Bandai has pulled the trigger a little early. As of this morning, the English version of Gundam Battle is officially available on the Google Play Store.

Post-it releases Android app to scan and organize sticky notes, only five years after iOS

Today Post-it is revealing something you might have already assumed it had: an Android app. The new Post-it app will allow you to digitally import content written on real-world Post-its, supplement them with more created on-device, organize them into groups, and share them with others in multiple formats. None of this is really new since the company's iOS app has been around half a decade now, but now the more populated platform has reached Post-it parity.

Make stronger decisions with new Google Play Console data

Posted by Tom Grinsted, Product Manager, Google Play

At this year’s Google I/O, we announced a slate of new features to help you take your business further with Google Play. Launching today, these changes include several improvements designed to help you make better decisions about your business by providing clearer, more actionable data.

We know the right data is critical to help you improve your app performance and grow your business. That’s why we’re excited to share a major update that enables you to better measure and analyse your core statistics — the most fundamental install and uninstall metrics by user and device. We’ve also enhanced the Statistics page on the Play Console to show change over time, enable more granular configurations, and, coming soon, exclusive benchmarks for core stats!

Statistics page on the Play Console

More granular configurations are now available on the Statistics page to help you better understand your acquisition and churn.

More accurate and more expansive than before, the new metrics will help you better understand your acquisition and churn. For the first time, we are including data on returning users and devices - something that we understand is critical to many developers' growth strategies.

We’re also including new install methods (such as pre-installs and peer-to-peer sharing) and the ability to aggregate and dedupe over periods that suit your business needs. With these new updates, you can perform analyses that weren’t possible before, such as how many people re-installed your app last month.

Here’s what else is new:

  • Clearer, consistent metrics definitions:
    • Select users or devices, acquisitions or losses
    • Define if you’re interested in new, returning, or all users
    • Measure events (for example, when someone installs) or uniques (for instance, every person who installs)
  • Change analysis charts automatically show the largest changes during a selected period of time for a given dimension, making it easy to see the largest contributors to your metric trends.
  • Saved reports allow you to configure your metrics just the way you want them, then save them for easy retrieval and common analyses.
  • Suggested reports help you to find interesting ways to combine your data for more valuable analysis.
  • And finally, all configured data can be downloaded as CSVs from within the interface.

As a result of these updates, you will notice a few changes to your metrics. Old metrics names will be deprecated, but you can configure new metrics that map to the old ones with this cheat sheet. And don’t forget to use the ‘save report’ feature on the stats page so you can easily return to any configurations you find particularly helpful!

Save report feature on the stats page

Don’t forget to use the ‘save this report’ feature on the stats page to easily return to any configurations you find particularly helpful.

Other metrics like active user and active device will see a step-change as the new definitions are more expansive and include previously under-counted data.

Some new metrics map onto older ones. Where this happens, all historic data will be automatically included. But in other cases new metrics will only be generated from launch day. For unique devices or users, weekly metrics will start to appear two weeks after launch, monthly metrics once there’s a single full month’s data, and quarterly metrics once there’s a full quarter’s data.

We know it’s a lot to take in at once, so make sure to bookmark the cheat sheet for helpful tips as you navigate the transition and explore your new metrics. Additionally, our Decision-Making with the Google Play Console session from Google I/O and our Play Academy training are other great resources to help you get up to speed.

Check out these updates in the Google Play Console today — we hope you find them useful. Your comments help to shape the future of Google Play, so please continue to let us know what you think.

8 tips for a stress-free summer road trip

Growing up, I always looked forward to summer and the road trips I’d take with family and friends. It didn’t matter if we were trekking from Chicago to Florida or taking a scenic journey to camp at Boulder Lake in Wisconsin. We’d always make a summer jams soundtrack (on cassette), pack the car full of snacks, and stick our heads out the window to feel the cool breeze.

These days, road trips feature my wife and son, as we explore all that California has to offer, but those old habits have remained the same.

For many people like myself, road trips will always will be quintessential part of summer. If you’re planning to hit the road for an adventure of your own, here are eight ways the Google Assistant can help you safely get things done when you’re behind the wheel (or in the back seat):

  1. Check the weather at your destination by saying “Hey Google, what’s the weather like in Yellowstone this weekend?”

  2. "Hey Google, how's traffic to downtown Charlotte?" will give you the quickest route to your destination.

  3. Give your friends an update on your arrival time by saying, “Hey Google, share my ETA with Ari.”

  4. Stay in touch while you’re on the road by asking, “Hey Google, call Dad.”

  5. “Hey Google, find the nearest gas station” will help you when you need to make a pit stop. Or ask your Assistant, “Hey Google, where’s the nearest coffee shop?” when you need to get your caffeine fix.

  6. Avoid boredom with a podcast or audiobook while you're driving through remote locations. Just say, “Hey Google, play Planet Money.”

  7. Play, pause or skip through your favorite songs from services like YouTube Music, Pandora, and Spotify.

  8. Send text messages with your voice so you can keep your eyes on the road. Just ask the Assistant, “Hey Google, send a text to Jake” or “Hey Google, read my messages.”

And it’s really easy to get started. You can access the Assistant in a variety of places, whether you’re using Google Maps for Android and iOS, Waze for Android, Android Auto, or through the new car accessory, Anker Roav Bolt. Later this year, we’re introducing the Assistant’s new driving mode, a voice-forward dashboard for Android that brings your most relevant activities—like navigation, messaging, calling, and media—front and center.

Bonus tip: When you get home from your trip, you can always pull up specific pictures from your journey from Google Photos by asking the Assistant on your Smart Display. Give it a go by saying, “Hey Google, show me my pictures from Yosemite.”

Buckle up and and remember to take plenty of pictures of your trip!

Google Phone v37 groups call history by contact, lets you swipe to delete calls [APK Download]

Google's Phone dialer received an update to v37 in its beta channel yesterday, and although many of us didn't notice any major changes in the app, some lucky recipients of a server-side test are seeing a new interface in the recent call tab, including a new way to group calls and the ability to swipe to delete entries from the log.

If you have the new interface, you'll likely be welcomed by two blue tooltips in the app's Recents tab.

Google Maps gives users more control over their personal and shared lists

Google Maps lists have become an essential feature for me. I have lists for places all over the world that I want to check out one day, dedicated lists to each country I've traveled to or am planning to visit soon, as well as some miscellaneous lists for places around me for which I need to have a saved location. The Maps team has been steadily improving these lists, but some neat changes have trickled in recently — likely via server-side as we just spotted them but we can now see them in older versions of the app too.

Perhaps the most drastic change announced for Android Q was Scoped Storage, which changes file management on Android by limiting which folders apps can access. After complaints from developers that they wouldn't be able to update their apps in time for Q, Google said it wouldn't make Scoped Storage a requirement until Android R, but well-known file manager Solid Explorer has just added support anyway.

10 of the best minimalist word games available on Android in 2019

As a fan of minimal word games, I thought it might be a good idea to round up a few of my favorites. This is why I've hand-selected ten of the best Android word games that offer a minimalist theme.

Google Play Store v15.9 may hint at in-app reviews [APK Teardown]

Google never stops tweaking the user experience throughout Android. One of the goals that has cropped up over time has been making certain interactions between apps and the OS feel seamless, usually by eliminating context switches between apps. One area where that many people recognize as a huge improvement was a new flow for in-app purchases that put the interface directly into the app where the purchase was made. Now it looks like the Google Play Store might be extending similar treatment to the ratings and reviews interface.
