Spotify has announced a new promotion for members with family accounts. Starting tomorrow, November 1, the master account holder on any Spotify Premium for Family plan in the United States can get a Google Home Mini for the low low price of zero dollars.

The Google Home Mini's speaker isn't particularly robust, but you can have it play music from Spotify on a paired Bluetooth speaker or any cast-enabled device. And even if you don't have those things, it's hard to quibble with the sound quality of your free smart speaker.

Huawei Watch and Watch 2 get new Wear OS UI

Wear OS was updated with a brand new UI not long ago, but not all watches were seeing the update. Huawei’s duo of smartwatches in particular were missing out. Thankfully, that changes today.

Wear OS 2.17 is now rolling out for the Huawei Watch and Huawei Watch 2, giving you the new interface and many improvements. Users are reporting that the watches are feeling smoother and faster on top of the obvious UI improvements. Getting the update myself, I must admit it’s really nice.

If you still haven’t seen the notification, give your watch a restart and you should immediately see it. Update and let us know what you think!

Starbucks v5.0.1 brings easier payments and improved navigation

The United States' most popular mobile payments platform, Starbucks, has always been useful for those who frequent the chain. With this week's update, though, it's getting considerably nicer to use, with easier access to the barcode screen and the ability to remember your order as you navigate the app.

There's now a prominent button that'll take you to the barcode Starbucks' baristas scan to charge you for your order. Additionally — and this is a big one — Starbucks will remember the order you're building should you venture to other parts of the app (it's bizarre it didn't always do that).

OxygenOS Open Beta 6 brings Nightscape and more to OnePlus 6

If you are a fan of trying out pre-release software, especially when it comes to Android releases from OnePlus, then the company has a brand new beta release for you.

Today, OnePlus is releasing the latest beta build for the OnePlus 6. With OyxgenOS Open Beta 6, a few different features that OnePlus introduced with the OnePlus 6T are making it into the slightly older handset. That includes the Nightscape feature, which brings even better camera performance with noise reduction, multi-frame and detail optimization, and more. With Nightscape, OnePlus 6 owners should be able to take a photo in the dark in just about two seconds.

As for the rest, OnePlus is including the Android security patch 2018.11, an improvement to the UI in the About phone page, general improvements when taking a screenshot, and a new Google quick search box. As is par for the course, OnePlus is making sure that folks understand this is beta software, so it’s possible that there may be some hiccups.

If you want to try out the new beta software, check out OnePlus’s forum post through the source link below. Let us know what you think of the new software on your OnePlus 6.

[Update: Formally available for all] Gboard 7.5.6 beta introduces two personalized 'Minis' sticker packs

  • It has been a long time since we first caught wind of these customizable sticker packs. First they worked, then they disappeared for a bit, but finally they returned —

In his teardown of Gboard v 7.4, Cody saw signs of a new personalized "minis" sticker pack coming. The feature is now live in v7.5.6 beta, which started rolling out today. The new minis stickers are a re-implementation of the selfie stickers that launched on Allo last year — as a matter of fact, many of the options are the same — but instead of one pack, you get two: "Bold mini" and "Sweet mini."

You'll see the "minis" option when you switch to the sticker section of Gboard.

Google Maps revamps navigation settings, lets you force the dark color scheme all the time

Google Maps keeps on rolling one change after the other. But there's one more change that was spotted a couple of weeks ago that we would have missed if it weren't for our active tipsters: a revamped settings screen for navigation.

New modded Google Camera APK features functional Night Sight on Essential Phone, others

Google’s new Night Sight feature in the Pixel 3 is pretty incredible; it stitches together many shots in the dark to create a shockingly bright image. This is a big step above the standard HDR+ software Pixel users had before.

Since the HDR+ Pixel camera app was ported to other devices before, it was only a matter of time before Night Sight came to some other devices. This release by Arnova8G2 does exactly this.

The Night Sight feature has been confirmed working on the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the Essential Phone. Unfortunately, Night Sight is not yet working on the OnePlus 6. Testing it on the Essential Phone resulted in much brighter and better quality low light shots (though the device still has its limitations). It’s pretty incredible! It may work on other Snapdragon devices so give it a shot by hitting the source link!

Pixel 3 XL bug causes a second notch to appear

The Pixel 3 XL is a great phone, it really is. Unfortunately, both the Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 3 have been struck with a variety of software bugs right out of the gate. While disappearing photos may have been a bad one, this latest bug is straight-up comical. Some Pixel 3 XL users have reported that a second notch has appeared on the side edge of their displays, as can be seen in the photo above.

Fortunately, the issue disappears after a restart or after users mess around with developer settings. Google reached out to Android Police and confirmed that they’ve received multiple reports of the issue and will be rolling out a fix shortly. It appears that it’s related to the rotation settings on the device and should be easy to take care of.

It’s a pity that this issue popped up, but at least it gave us a good Monday chuckle.

Xiaomi launching in Ireland on November 1 via Three

Xiaomi is a huge name in China and much of Asia, but the company has not spread far outside of that. We have long drooled over their devices, and many have imported them through third-party companies.

Fortunately Xiaomi is expanding, and the latest new market is Ireland. Xiaomi has partnered with Three to bring some of its devices to the country. Though what devices will be launched is unknown, we do know that there will be a “range” of smartphones.

The official launch event is November 1, but the location of the Dublin event is not currently know. However, you can head to this site to sign up for the event. If you’re chosen, you can also bring a guest with you.

If you live in Ireland, you’ll soon have even more choices for your next smartphone. Xiaomi is known for solid budget phones with great specs, so get excited! Now it’s time for the company to hit US shelves.

OnePlus 6T official; coming to T-Mobile

At its launch event in New York, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 6T, its latest flagship that is set to wow the world. The device has leaked several times and the official release confirms much of what we’ve heard. Notably, you’ll find a redesigned display notch that’s significantly smaller, as well as a reduced chin on the device.

The OnePlus 6T also features an in-display fingerprint scanner that preserves screen real estate and can read a fingerprint in 0.34 seconds. Plus, it features machine learning for increased responsiveness over time. Other specs include:

  • 6.41-inch 2340×1080 AMOLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio
  • 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor
  • Adreno 630 GPU
  • 6GB/8GB LPDDR4 RAM
  • 128GB/256GB storage plus microSD card slot
  • 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual rear cameras with OIS+EIS, f/1.7 aperture, and 480fps slow-motion video
  • 16-megapixel front camera
  • 3700mAh battery with fast charging
  • Android 8.1 Oreo with OxygenOS
  • Dual SIM capability

Notably, the OnePlus 6T does not feature a headphone jack. This has sparked some contention, but OnePlus will include a complimentary headphone-to-USB-C adapter with each phone. The company has also created Bullets V2 headphones that feature a USB-C connector. The company also has Bullets Wireless headphones.

A big improvement for the camera on the OnePlus 6T is Nightscape, an HDR feature that focuses on detail optimization, multi-frame optimization, and noise reduction. Nightscape allows users to snap a night photo in just two seconds, marking a significant improvement in both speed and quality. Best of all, Nightscape will be available on the OnePlus 6 via a software update later this week.

OnePlus also introduced Studio Lighting, a feature developed with photographer Kevin Abosch that uses software to understand reflective lighting. This allows for vastly improved lighting in portraits and selfies.

As far as gaming goes, OnePlus has introduced Smart Boost, a feature that uses RAM as ROM to increase performance. This allows for up to 20% faster loading times.

OnePlus-6T-T-Mobile

An important step for OnePlus is its new partnership with T-Mobile. Throughout its history, OnePlus has only sold its devices directly. But repeated calls from fans have led the company to develop a partnership with T-Mobile. Starting on November 1, the OnePlus 6T will be available online and at over 5,000 T-Mobile stores across the U.S.

Additionally, the OnePlus 6T is now compatible with 233 carriers in 74 countries, including Verizon.

Moreover, OnePlus has partnered with Qualcomm to work on 5G smartphones that will arrive in the near future, possibly in 2019.

OnePlus is beginning sales of the 6T today at a pop-up T-Mobile store in Times Square. The OnePlus 6T will be widely available in the U.S. in stores and online this Thursday, November 1 in two color variants of Mirror Black and Midnight Black. The OnePlus 6T will be available in Europe starting on November 6.

Pricing starts at $549 and goes up to $629, drastically undercutting Pixel devices and iPhones that are retailing for $1000+.

T-Mobile users can get a special boost when purchasing a OnePlus 6T at launch. Customers who trade in a qualifying device will get $300 off a OnePlus 6T.

Now that it’s official, what are your thoughts on the OnePlus 6T? Are you planning to purchase?

RED Hydrogen One heading to Verizon and AT&T

RED, best known for its high-end video cameras, is making its debut into the smartphone market with the Hydrogen One, which will be available in the U.S. on Verizon and AT&T. The Hydrogen One, a device that has appeared in numerous leaks, is selling itself on a holographic display using 4-View technology. This adds a sense of depth to to 4-View video content, though RED emphasizes that the experience is far superior to lenticular 3D displays which made appearances in early Android smartphones. Like lenticular 3D displays though, 4-View technology allows users to view holographic content without glasses.

AT&T is taking full advantage of the 4-View technology in its marketing for the device. The big blue carrier is offering RED Hydrogen One buyers “Ready Player One” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in 4-View technology for free. Additionally, half of the 4-View content available at launch in the Hydrogen Network will be from Warner Bros. That number is expected to grow along with the 4-View catalog, which should expand to over 100 movies in the near future.

AT&T will offer the Red Hydrogen One for $43.17 over 30 months on AT&T Next or $1,295 full retail price. That’s a hefty pricetag, but Verizon is offering the same full retail price, with the option to pay $53.95 for 24 months on a device payment plan. Both carriers will begin selling the Hydrogen One on November 2.

For a reminder, the Hydrogen One features a unique list of specs. These include the 5.7-inch 4-View QHD (2560×1440) display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage plus microSD card slot, 4-View 12-megapixel rear camera, 4-View 8-megapixel front camera, 4500mAh battery, surround sound speakers and 5.1 surround sound headphone support, and Android 8.0 Oreo. RED has outfitted the Hydrogen One with a rugged design of aluminum and Kevlar. Importantly, the device also features rear pogo pins to allow for modular accessories, such as an improved camera.

What do you think of the RED Hydrogen One? Do you have any interest in purchasing this smartphone?

InboxIt is a new app that replaces the departed 'Save to Inbox' feature

Inbox by Gmail is going the way of the dodo, and there's nothing we can do about it. "Save to Inbox" was one of many handy features, but it's already been removed from the Android app and the Chrome extension has also vanished.
