OnePlus 5T gets open Android 8.0 Oreo beta

If you have a OnePlus 5T and have been wanting to try out Android 8.0 Oreo, OnePlus has an open beta that you might want to take a look at.

OnePlus has released OxygenOS Open Beta 1, based on Android Oreo, for the OnePlus 5T. As is the case with all betas, this is pre-release software so there might be issues with the software, and stability might not be that great. If you’re brave and want to give OnePlus some data ahead of the public Android Oreo update, though, the open beta is available now for you to try.

Here’s the official changelog from OnePlus’s announcement:

Updated to Android O (8.0)

Launcher

  • Optimized the app shortcut style
  • Combine icon options with app shortcuts
  • Now able to upload photos to Shot on OnePlus

System

  • Added Picture in Picture
  • Added Auto-Fill
  • Added Smart Text Selection
  • New Quick Settings design
  • Updated Android security patch to December

The instructions to get started can be found through the source link below. You will need to flash the new open Android 8.0 Oreo beta to your device and download the full ROM. Once the open beta has been installed on your device, you will be part of the open beta program and you will receive subsequent software updates over-the-air (OTA).

If you try the pre-release software and find it isn’t to your liking, OnePlus also has instructions to revert back to the stable release path, which is also available through the source link below.

If you have a OnePlus 5T, do you think you’ll try the open Android 8.0 Oreo beta?
