Fingerprint sensors aren’t on the way out just yet, but the popularity of unlocking your phone with your face is certainly gaining traction. The OnePlus 5T launched with Face Unlock in tow, and now that feature is coming to an older OnePlus device.
OnePlus has officially announced that the Open Beta 3 for OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5 (which is running on Android 8.0 Oreo) is rolling out to the open beta program, and coming with it is Face Unlock. This means that OnePlus 5 owners will now be able to use their face to unlock their phone if they’ve grown tired of using their fingerprint.
The new pre-release software also includes app shortcut on Launcher, “optimizations for vibrations,” the December 2017 Android security patches, and more. You can see the full changelog through the source link below as well as instructions on how to enlist in the open beta program for the OnePlus 5.
If you have a OnePlus 5, and you’re testing out the beta software, are you planning on trying out Face Unlock?
