Like Google has accustomed us every month, the new Android usage breakdown statistics are here for us to behold.
As expected Android Nougat adoption rates have claimed enough to claim the third place with 15.8% (14.2% for Android 7.0 and 1.6% for Android 7.1).
Nougat is surpassed by Android Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) which is currently installed on a total of 28.8% of Android devices out there. But Android 6.0 Marshmallow continues to remain the most wide-spread version of Android holding dominion with 32.2%. Naturally, even though Google launched Android 8.0 Oreo – its latest mobile OS effort – the new version does not show up in these chats.
Why? It’s quite simple. Android 8.0 Oreo is currently available on a handful of devices – all Nexuses and Pixels – so it might take a while before adoption rates surge over the 0.1% threshold. However, new phones with Oreo out of the box are coming. For example, the Sony Xperia XZ1 is expected to launch on September 19.
As for older versions of Android, they are on their way out. Gingerbread (2.3.3 to 2.3.7) and Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3 to 4.0.4) are currently at 0.6%. As for Jelly Bean (4.1.x, 4.2.x, 4.3), it’s currently available on 6.9% of Android devices.
