Amazon announces Echo Show, pairing Alexa with a display

Following recent rumors, Amazon has announced the Echo Show, a smart speaker assistant that has a display to broaden the spectrum of uses. The device is powered by Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant software, which can answer questions, control connected devices, play music, and more.

With the addition of a display on the Echo Show, new options are available, such as watching videos, seeing photos and to-do lists, and monitoring connected security cameras. An important new addition is also the ability to make voice or video calls to other users who have an Echo device or the Alexa app.

The display is a 7-inch touchscreen and the added camera is a 5-megapixel shooter. Powering the set-up is an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor. Like other Echo devices, the Echo Show also functions as a powerful speaker, with dual 2-inch stereo speakers. The device is tuned to pick up commands and requests using eight microphones, beam-forming technology, and noise cancellation.

Amazon will release the Echo Show on June 28, and the device is up for pre-order now with two color options of black and white. Pricing is set at $229.99, but users who purchase two Echo Shows in the same order can save $100 with the promo code SHOW2PACK.
