April has been a busy month for Motorola leaks and rumors. Recently we’ve seen images of what was a Moto Z2 with dual rear cameras and a render of the Moto Z2 Force with Moto Mod support and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Now, TechnoBuffalo has a report that gives us what they say is the first look at the Moto Z2 Play. It’s another remarkably thin phone, just like last year’s device, and there’s that familiar camera bump that’s hard to ignore. In the image here we’ve got a gold phone, but it’s likely that Motorola will release the handset with multiple colors available if gold isn’t your thing.
Other key tidbits include a front-facing flash making a return, Moto Mod support sticking around for at least one more generation of handsets, and a pill-shaped home button on the front, which will also support gestures. There does appear to be a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom, too.
Unfortunately the report doesn’t include any information regarding the specifications for the upcoming handset. Last year’s model was outfitted with a 5.5-inch 1080p HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in storage. So, barring any surprises in the upgrade path, the Moto Z2 Play will probably keep the specs pretty low-key. One can hope, and maybe even expect, for the newest smartphone to keep a huge battery under the hood, though.
The report notes that the display shows a date of June 8 on its display, which could serve as the launch date for the handset. Or it may just be nothing at all.
