The market is rich in phones with FHD displays, while QHD devices are available in smaller numbers and are limited to flagship models. There’s even 4K handsets, with the Samsung Galaxy Note8 rumoured to sport such a display.
But LG wants to do things a bit differently. The company announced it will launch the first phone to come with a 5.7-inch display featuring 2880 x 1440-pixel resolution and a wide aspect ratio of 18:9. The device should pack 564 ppi which is a bit above what a “normal” 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution would offer.
LG doesn’t mention the name of the phone that will carry this atypical screen, but we have to assume it’s the upcoming LG G6 flagship.
The company says users will be able to take advantage of the extra screen real estate to multi-task on Android, meaning to run two or more apps side by side. LG also boasts the display rocks better outdoor visibility and will consume 30% less power than “standard” screens.
Going back to the LG G6, it seems the upcoming flagship will beat the Samsung Galaxy S8 and make it to retail earlier. The phone should be announced at MWC 2017 which is expected to kickstart on February 27.
