Motorola sold 10 million phones in Q4 2014

Lenovo has announced that Motorola sold 10 million phones in Q4 2014. The number is an increase of 118 percent over Q4 2013, making a substantial leap for the company. Lenovo gave the news as a part of its FQ3 2014/2015 (Q4 2014) results. While Lenovo’s mobile division, which includes Motorola, posted an $89 million loss, Lenovo says that Motorola is on track to become profitable within four to six quarters.

Lenovo made a net income of $253 million during Q4, which is a respectable number. The company took a substantial hit in its mobile division, but it likely expected that. Lenovo’s own mobile products have been met with mixed feelings, and the acquisition of Motorola wasn’t completed until Q4.

On a lighter note, Motorola is showing significant growth and if it keeps to a similar course, as we suspect Lenovo will allow it to do, the company could end up becoming one of the top three players. Motorola is already gearing up to grow significantly this year, as Lenovo brings Motorola back into the Chinese market. We can never be certain, but 2015 should be a good year for Motorola.
