It looks like we’ve got another reason to look forward to summer.
Hulu announced today that starting this summer, it will begin allowing mobile users to stream a selection of ad-supported TV episodes for free. Users are currently only allowed to stream content for free on a desktop computer.
Hulu also says that it’s prepping an updated version of its Hulu Plus app for iPhone. The app will launch later in the summer, and while Hulu doesn’t say what features the update might bring, the fact that it’s described as the “next generation” app suggests that it’ll be a significant upgrade.
We’ve seen several companies offer free content streaming to mobile users recently. One example is Spotify, which began allowing tablet users to stream on-demand music for free late last year. Now Hulu is extending free streaming to mobile users as well, and while we don’t yet know what the “selection” of free content will be, being able to stream some free TV shows on the go will be a nice way to kill some time during that summer road trip.
