Qualcomm has built a new processor that’s designed specifically not for smartphones, but rather personal computers.
The company has just lifted the curtain on what it calls the Snapdragon 850. This is a processor that’s designed specifically for PCs, especially those that are “always on, always connected” and are equipped with Microsoft’s Windows 10. The new chipset is designed with the 10nm process, and Qualcomm says it’s capable of maximum download speeds of 1.2Gbps thanks to the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem.
The other major bullet points for the new processor include battery life that’s 25 percent better than what the Snapdragon 835 offered. That comparison also includes 3X better AI performance over the previous chipset thanks to a new AI Engine. The Snapdragon 850 also supports 10-bit HDR video playback.
If that isn’t enough, Sprint and Qualcomm are teaming up for a special offering. The Now Network will dole out free unlimited data in 2018 with Snapdragon 850-equipped PCs from Lenovo, HP, and ASUS.
