The Alcatel 3V isn’t the only Alcatel phone that’s coming soon to the U.S.
Alcatel will launch the 1X in the U.S. next week. It’ll be available from Amazon for $99.99 and will be sold as a GSM unlocked device. The Alcatel 1X will then be sold by Best Buy and Walmart.com in the coming weeks.
The Alcatel 1X is an Android Oreo (Go edition) device. That means that it runs a special version of Android Oreo that’s optimized for entry-level hardware. Google’s apps are optimized, too, so that they take up less storage space and use less data.
Alcatel has also added some of its own software features to the 1X. These include a Social Mode that’ll help you take, edit, and share photos, as well as a Social Square feature that’ll let you view recently captured photos on one half of the screen and use the camera viewfinder in the other half. There’s also an Instant Collage feature that’ll let you put your photos into pre-set arrangements.
On the hardware side of things, the Alcatel 1X is packing a 5.3-inch 960×480 display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 16GB of built-in storage, and a microSD card slot. There’s a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 processor and 1GB of RAM inside the Alcatel 1X, too, along with a 2460mAh battery.
Other notable features of the Alcatel 1X include an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, a microUSB port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a rear fingerprint reader.
It’s exciting to see another Android Oreo (Go edition) device coming to market. In the past, low-cost phones like the 1X may have had to sacrifice performance to reach a low price, but Android Oreo (Go edition) should help to give the Alcatel 1X respectable performance even with its entry-level specs.
