Google rumored to launch mid-range Pixel smartphone in India this year

Last year, before the Pixel 2 was officially announced, there were rumors that Google was planning on launching a “cheaper” variant of the Pixel smartphone lineup. That didn’t turn out to be the case, but Google may still be working on the idea.

The Economic Times has a report out that states Google is planning a big push into India soon, and part of that effort includes a new Pixel smartphone that won’t be sold in the United States. The new handset will reportedly be a mid-range model, and Google is planning on selling it sometime in July or August of this year.

Google’s not stopping there. The company will be bringing its Home smart speakers to the Indian market, too, as well as the Pixelbook. The report is based on industry sources who recently spoke with Google who add that the company’s strategy in India is basically set, so we should see some news on that front soon.

Unfortunately, there’s no additional information to go on. Will this be a new mid-range phone? Will it be a Pixel 2, or even an original Pixel? We’ll have to wait and see.
