Not too long ago, Facebook launched a kids version of its mega popular Messenger app. It’s designed for kids between six and 12 years old, and it provides text chat and support for video calls. The app already has some built-in tools for parents, including giving them the ability to control their child’s contact list. Now Facebook is adding one more.
Announced on Friday, Facebook is adding a sleep mode to Messenger Kids. This will give parents more control over how much access their kid has to the app.
The new sleep mode will allow parents to set predetermined times that Messenger Kids cannot be used, whether that’s a blocked out time for homework, during the night, or other times decided upon by the guardian. The app looks pretty easy, giving the ability to choose a week day or weekend along with a time to start and stop sleep mode. It can be found within the parental control panel.
As far as what happens when sleep mode is activated, the app won’t deliver notifications, kids won’t be able to send or receive messages, and they won’t be able to access the app’s camera functionality, either. If a kid does try to open the app, it will let them know it’s currently in sleep mode and refuse access.
What do you think of the idea of Messenger Kids in general?
