Samsung’s Bixby speaker will arrive in the second half of 2018

Samsung‘s smart speaker, which will have the company’s digital assistant Bixby on board, was first reported on way back in July of last year. Not long after that, another report suggested the company wasn’t making such a device after all.

By the time December rolled around, though, Samsung was ready to talk about their upcoming Bixby smart speaker, with expectations that they’d have it ready for the mass market by sometime in the first half of 2018. But changes are afoot yet again, as a new report from The Wall Street Journal reveals that Samsung is now planning on launching their smart speaker in the second half of this year.

Unfortunately, while the launch date information is there in this report, not much else is. We still don’t know what the Bixby smart speaker will look like, what features Samsung will be promoting when it does arrive, or even how much it will cost. Some rumors have speculated it will retail for around $200, though.

It’s likely that Samsung will want to position the smart speaker as a central hub to its own smart home initiative, under the SmartThings banner. It’s probably a safe bet that it will handle things like reminders, news updates, and playing music, too.

Depending on price, are you already expecting to pick up Samsung’s smart speaker when it arrives?
