Nokia announces Nokia Pro camera app for devices with Carl Zeiss optics

Nokia used to be famous for its smartphone cameras. The high end Lumia series of devices had some of the best smartphone cameras on the market, and the company introduced a full manual mode before any of the major companies did. Of course, the golden age of Nokia is over, but the company is making a comeback.

Part of its comeback is the new announcement that the company will be bringing back the old camera app as the Nokia Pro camera app. It will feature a fully manual mode, a new interface, and some familiar old features. Hopefully this will also mean better image processing and faster shutter speeds in low light.

The camera app will be coming to devices with Carl Zeiss optics like the upcoming Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco, but it’s unknown if it will come to the older Nokia 8.

With software processing playing such a critical part in smartphone photography these days, this new app is a very welcome change. We love what we’re seeing and we hope Nokia’s comeback under HMD Global will keep bringing us better and better phones.
