AT&T to launch mobile 5G network this year

AT&T has been building up the launch of its 5G mobile network for quite some time, and now the big blue network has announced that it will launch its mobile 5G network this year in 12 different markets in the United States in late 2018. This network will be based on the standards approved and completed by the 3GPP just last month, and it will mean lower latency for supported devices as well as overall faster speeds.

Unfortunately, AT&T wasn’t keen on providing specific details as to which markets will get mobile 5G first, but at least we know the network plans on rolling it out before the end of the year.

AT&T did have some more to talk about as far as its 5G Evolution is concerned, though. This 4G LTE network technology takes advantage of LTE-Advanced, with the goal to provide faster speeds for supported devices. It launched in Austin, Texas last year and is now in 23 areas across the U.S.

Here are the 23 metropolitan areas that support for 5G Evolution:

  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Austin, Texas
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Bridgeport, Connecticut
  • Buffalo, New York
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Fresno, California
  • Greenville, South Carolina
  • Hartford, Connecticut
  • Houston, Texas
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Los Angeles, California
  • Louisville, Kentucky
  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • San Diego, California
  • San Francisco, California
  • Tulsa, Oklahoma
  • Sacramento, California
