Google posts May 2017 security updates

Google is here with another round of monthly security updates for Android. Right on schedule, the company has posted the factory and OTA images for these updates for Nexus and Pixel devices. These images are available for the Pixel XL, Pixel, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus Player, Nexus 9 (LTE), and Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi). For those who aren’t in the business of sideloading updates, the OTA update should be automatically pushed by Google in the coming days.

The May 2017 security bulletin isn’t too expansive, though one critical Mediaserver vulnerability did make the list. Fortunately, Google has had no reports that any of the vulnerabilities addressed in this update have been exploited. The major benefit of Google’s monthly security updates is that they allow the company to keep ahead of impending threats.
