Starbucks launches voice ordering in its iPhone app, Android version coming later this year

Artificial intelligence (AI) is getting a ton of attention from many companies out there, and now Starbucks is getting in on the fun.

The company has officially announced that it is rolling out “My Starbucks Barista,” which will be embedded within the company’s stock iOS app beginning today. It’s also making its debut as a skill for Amazon Alexa, with a Starbucks Reorder Skill making it possible to just use your voice to order your drink.

Starbucks says its My Starbucks Barista available beginning today or iOS, but that it will be rolling out to Android devices later this year.

With the feature, you’ll be able to simply tell the digital barista what you want to drink or eat, then pay for all of those things even before you get to the Starbucks location to pick it all up. You can use text to order through the new feature as well, if you don’t feel like talking to a digital Starbucks barista out in public.

Starbucks says this My Starbucks Barista is a limited beta trial for now. Only 1,000 people will get to try it out in this initial wave, with further rolling releases happening over the next few months.
