Motorola not planning any new smartwatches in the near future

Android Wear 2.0 is launching early next year, but Motorola won’t be releasing a new smartwatch for the launch. The company already said that there would be no new watches this year, and now we find out that there may not be a new watch for a while.

Head of global product development at Moto, Shakil Barkat, says that the market is too small for the company to invest in making yet another smartwatch based on the platform. He says, “Wearables do not have broad enough appeal for us to continue to build on it year after year.”

Unfortunately, the popularity of Android Wear and smartwatches in general isn’t where some want it to be at the moment. The technology is great and very useful, but people seem to not want to invest in it just yet. Hopefully smartwatches have a bright future and Motorola will revisit the market, and more importantly, we hope other companies don’t jump ship.
