Are you a Google Pixel or Pixel XL owner based in Canada? Then you better check your phone.
Users in the US have received the Android November security patch, but Canadian Pixel users have been treated to an additional update. It comes as build number “NPF26J”with Android 7.1 and brings “security updates and bug fixes”.
We’re dealing with a special status update here. Notice the “P” letter in the build number which indicates it is a Preview build which isn’t usually sent out in the form of an OTA update.
Anyway the update adds an interesting feature. It allows users to double-tap the screen or lift their device to quickly check notifications without turning on the entire display. This allows for battery life to be saved.
For the time being, we can’t tell you whether users outside of Canada are also getting the update. However, the new feature does seem to work without obstruction, so if you see the update give it a go.
Or you can check your phone’s Settings if your phone hasn’t received a notification yet.
Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL phones were unveiled not so long ago and are some of the few handsets that currently run Android 7.1 Nougat.
