Verizon LTE Advanced rolling out in 461 cities with faster peak download speeds

Verizon Wireless has officially announced that it is rolling out LTE Advanced to 461 cities across the United States.

With LTE Advanced, customer peak download speeds will see a sharp increase. Specifically, peak download speeds can be up to 50 percent faster thanks to carrier aggregation. To make it work, Verizon is combining its 700MHz, AWS and PCS spectrum, using either two- or three-carrier aggregation to boost peak download speeds.

For Verizon Wireless subscribers, this means peak download speeds are rocketing up. Right now, Verizon’s LTE network offers speeds between 5 and 12Mbps. With LTE Advanced two-carrier aggregation, those speeds can jump up to 225Mbps, and with three-carrier aggregation, speeds up to 300Mbps can be attained.

As far as device support is concerned, many different handsets already work with LTE Advanced. That includes the Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid, the LG G5, and Samsung’s Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, and Galaxy Note7. Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are supported, too. The full list consists of 39 devices, so go right here to check it out and find yours on it. The full list of 461 supported cities can be found right here.

Faster speeds will probably be welcomed by most Verizon customers, and with an expansive initial rollout like this, the arrival of Verizon’s LTE Advanced is a nice surprise.
