In June of last year, Facebook officially announced that its Messenger app for Android had been downloaded more than one billion times. And in April of this year, the social network announced it had over 900 million active monthly users.
Fast-forward three months and Facebook is announcing yet another Messenger milestone: the app now sees over 1 billion active users every month. That means that in just over three months, Messenger has gained over 100 million active users.
Facebook is celebrating the milestone in its own special way: with an emoji. Sending a balloon emoji in a Facebook Messenger conversation will add “a touch of whimsy,” which the social network is using to not only celebrate the milestone, but also thank all of the users who use the platform every single day.
