Sony has had a tough go this past year or two. While their devices are still solid pieces of technology, their desire to keep things nearly the same with each iteration of the “Z” has begun to leave consumers bored. Plus their accelerated flagship cycle has lead them to fill the market with several flagships that are technically a generation apart but are almost unnoticeably different.
Well here comes another one it seems! According to a new rumour, Sony has a Xperia Z5 on the way and it may debut as early as September. According to the source, the Z5 will sport a 5.5″ 1080p dispaly, the Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 20.7MP camera and 8MP front facing camera. Do those specs sound familiar?
There will be at least one new addition to the Z5 however. The source claims that the Z5 will sport a fingerprint reader, a first for Sony. It’ll be interesting to see how they implement a fingerprint reader as they traditionally opt for on screen buttons. Perhaps they’ll have a fingerprint reader embedded into the screen? The technology is out there, but I’m not sure if its ready for prime time.
As with all rumours, take this with a grain of salt. I wouldn’t be surprised though if Sony outs another Z this year though as the Z4/Z3+ only launched in select markets.
