I’ve had a cell phone/smartphone for… well who knows how long now but one thing remains true: a good companion to a good phone is a good accessory. Whether that’s a case, a Bluetooth headset, or maybe a car mount, accessories are an integral part of the mobile phone experience and I think I may have just found my new favourite accessory. Meet the Caseco Core 360° the “World’s Smallest Universal Magnetic Mount.”
The mount really is quite ingenious in its simplicity and its compact form factor. The kit consists of a small magnetic mount that attaches to your car and a small silver ring (about the size of a quarter) that attaches to your phone or case. Both the mount and the ring feature adhesive from 3M so you shouldn’t have to worry about residual residue if/when your remove either piece. You also get a second ring for a secondary device and a second adhesive pad for the mount just in case you need to reapply it down the road.
Set up is incredibly simple. Attach the mount to your car wherever you deem best, attach the ring to your phone or case (it’s probably best to place it in the center of the device to balance it) and your done! Now when you enter your car, simply line up the silver ring to the mount and let the magnet grab onto your phone! When you’re ready to hop out of your car, easily grab your phone and go. Easy peasy!
The magnet is strong enough to keep your phone in place while driving but not so strong that it’ll damage your device in any way. The mount also features a 360° hinge so you can rotate and twist your device whichever way you need. I did find the hinge to be a tad on the stiff side and would accidentally pull my phone off while trying to rotate and twist but I suppose its better that it be a little stiff than too loose.
In all honesty, this is thee best mobile accessory I have ever used and by far the best car mount I’ve had (and I’ve gone through my fair share of them). I love the compact size and its simple yet brilliant design but, like all things, there are a couple of draw backs.
If you so choose to apply the silver ring directly to the phone then using a case becomes a little bit challenging. While many cases would likely still fit with the ring attached, you would have to remove your case each time you hopped into your car and throw it back on when you’re getting out. Not a huge nuisance but an extra step nonetheless. Now if you place the ring directly onto the case then, well, you’re kind of stuck with that case. You do get two rings in the box but if you swap cases often, you may run into some problems. You can purchase additional adhesive pads from Caseco for $6.99 (that get’s you two more ring adhesives and two mount adhesives) but then that’s just more money you’re having to invest. Speaking of money, the $44.99 price tag for the Core 360° is a tad on the high side for a car mount but after using it and loving it, it’s a price I’d be willing to pay.
