On Wednesday, February 4, Samsung said that the Sprint-branded Galaxy S5 would receive its upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop beginning Thursday, February 5. Turns out, the company made good on its word.
As confirmed by several members within Android Central‘s forums, the rollout for the latest version of Android has begun for the Galaxy S5. Of course, since it is an over the air update, these things can take some time before the update lands on all the active devices out there, so if the upgrade hasn’t landed on your handset just yet, stay tuned. It’s on the way.
As for the update itself, those who have picked up the new software say that the update comes in at a whopping 898.44MB, and Samsung says you’ll need to have at least 3GB of storage available to download the new software. Once the update is installed, the device will be bumped to version G900PVPU1AOA6. One more thing: After the update is installed, the total amount of available internal storage will drop by at least 950MB. So keep that in mind.
As pointed out on Wednesday, the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will mean the removal of the Lumen toolbar, Wi-Fi calling enhancements, and plenty of other goodies. It will also mean the addition of lock screen alerts and heads-up notifications, plus quite a bit more.
