It’s been almost a year since Apple announced the world’s first 64-bit smartphone and yet there haven’t been any real 64-bit Android device launches so far. Qualcomm’s already manufacturing the 64-bit enabled Snapdragons but those SoCs haven’t made it into phones yet. Thankfully, that will most likely change next week.
Qualcomm’s Twitter account teased a smartphone running a multi-core 64-bit smartphone earlier today and all signs are pointing towards the Desire 820 which was also teased by HTC themselves a few days ago.
The smartphone itself is midranged, but it’s going to come with a decent 8-core big.LITTLE architecture SoC (which is something Samsung has using for their international Galaxy S4, Note 3 and S5 with a 32-bit Exynos instead).
It’s unfortunate that Android will only officially come with full 64-bit in the “L” release later in the fall, so who knows what customizations HTC has made to make it work. The phone is expected to be revealed or even launched during IFA 2014 in Berlin.
