The all-new HTC J Butterfly — that’s based on the One M8 — is being released in Japan on KDDI and Okinawa Cellular. While it’s based on the 2014 flagship, it comes with a few caveats the all-metal phone doesn’t have. The phone is waterproof so dropping it in the sink or the toilet (if you’re one of those who can’t do their business without phone in hand) won’t cause any issues. However the kicker is, in order for you to have this waterproofing you’re not going to get the BoomSound speakers. However the Taiwanese company is throwing in a JBL in-ear headset.
Also missing is the 4 UP camera and in its place is the 13 MP camera we’ve seen on other HTC phones this year. You still have the secondary depth sense from the M8 but you’ll get a few more megapixels for your buck. All the other specs are the same as the flagship with it having a 5-inch 1080 display, 2GB of RAM with a Snapdragon 801 processor, 32 GB of internal storage expandable with a microSD slot, Android 4.4 and a 5 MP camera on the front.
Also, for those that are wanting one, it does come with support for HTC’s dot case. So if you’re in one of these countries, and are in the market for a new phone, KDDI will have it in late August.
