Google+ for Android app update brings new editing and browsing features

I don’t know about you, but whenever I get alerted to an app update on my phone, it always makes my day just a bit more awesome. If you feel the same way, then I’ve got good news for you, friend: The awesome level of your day is about to go up a notch.

Google employee Todd Kennedy recently took to his personal Google+ page to announce that the Google+ for Android app is receiving a pretty spiffy update. The update is all about photos, packing in new ways to edit and view your shots. Here are the new features found in latest version of Google+ for Android:

  • Non-destructive photo editing across devices: Start editing a photo on one device and then pick up where you left off on another. Users can also revert to the original image at any time.

  • New filters and creative tools: New tools like crop and rotate, one-touch filters and Snapseed-like enhancements such as Drama, Retrolux and HDR Scape.

  • Single view for all photos: New “All” view shows all of a user’s photos, including those backed up to the cloud. Libraries that consist of 10,000 or more images won’t show every single shot, but Kennedy says that Google is working to add support for larger collections in the coming weeks.

  • Browse photos by date: In the “All” view, a user can scroll through the images and then swipe to the right to bring up a scroll bar to move forward or backward in time.

Like I said, pretty spiffy update. With the addition of editing across devices and several new filters and tools, Google+ for Android could become the only photo-editing app that many folks need, which is nice since it comes preloaded on a lot of Android devices nowadays. The update to version 4.3 of Google+ for Android is now rolling out to the Play Store and should continue to make its way to users in the coming days.
