It’s 2014 and that means a brand new year filled new Android flagships just on the horizon. Not only have we heard quite a few rumors about Samsung’s Galaxy S5, but then there’s also devices like the HTC M8 and the Sony Sirius. While we already seem to know a great deal the Galaxy S5 and even a fair amount about the HTC M8, a new report from Xperia Blog now spills some more details about what to expect from Sony’s next flagship device.
As also indicated by previous rumors, the Sony D6503 (aka Sirius) will feature a 2.3GHz Qualcomm MSM8974AB CPU, and reportedly will be accompanied an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Other specs include a 20.7MP rear cam, 2.1MP front cam, a 5.2-inch 1080p display and Android 4.4 KitKat.
While these specs are incredibly good for a late-2013 flagship device, it’s now 2014 and there some folks that might be disappointed by the idea that Sony won’t be jumping on the QHD bandwagon. Before you get too down however, it’s unlikely that most users will really notice much of a difference between a so-called 2K display and a 1080p display on such small screens anyhow.
Ditching the super-high-resolution display expected in devices like the GS5 also comes with some clear advantages for Sony. Thanks to its less resource-hungry 1080p display, Sony Sirius should actually run faster than similar upcoming flagships with 2K displays and should also be much more battery efficient.
Now it’s important to keep in mind that these are unofficial specs and so speculation is advised. It’s also unclear when we’ll see the Sirius debut, though we wouldn’t be too surprised to see the handset unveiled at MWC next month.
If the specs are in fact legit, are you impressed by the Sirius? Do you feel that a 2K display is necessary or are you glad to see that Sony is steering clear of this feature?
