Google’s fourth quarter earnings are in, and they look pretty good. Despite rumors swirling around about Google cancelling the Nexus line, Google says the Nexus 5 was a very strong performer for the company. The Nexus 5 and Chromecast built a lot of good momentum for the company, and although the search giant didn’t disclose exact numbers, it’s pretty clear they turned a profit. Google did note that the Chromecast was their best selling product during Q4.
The Play Store was also a very strong revenue driver for Google, which were likely helped out by the Chromecast’s huge numbers. Chromebook sales through the Play Store weren’t great, but most of those are sold through places like Amazon and Best Buy.
Google’s revenue for the quarter totaled around $16.86 billion, beating the expectations of $16.75 billion and climbing about $2 billion from last year. They earned $12.01 a share, barely missing the targeted $12.26 per share but still jumping about $4 from last year.
Overall, Google had an expectedly strong fourth quarter, although they did still take some pretty heavy losses from Motorola. That obviously won’t be an issue for Google any longer.
