After the fiasco with the Nexus 7 LTE and Verizon, it’s been really quiet. If you don’t remember, Verizon has not allowed customers of the Nexus 7 LTE (which supports Verizon LTE) to activate their tablets on the network. They cite a lack of certification, but they have left all Verizon customers with the tablet stuck. After releasing the statement that it will certify the tablet, the company has been been silent on the matter.
Today, we finally got a statement from Verizon:
During the certification process for the Nexus 7, Google, Asus and Verizon uncovered a systems issue that required Google and Asus to undertake additional work with the Jelly Bean OS running on the device. Since Google was about to launch its new Kit Kat OS, rather than undertake this work, Google and Asus asked Verizon to suspend its certification process until Google's new OS was available on the Nexus 7.Verizon
Yes, due to some sort of issue (we can’t imagine what it is), the tablet will not be going thorough certification until after the KitKat OTA. This means that whenever the tablet receives KitKat, Verizon will start the certification process. But it could be weeks afterwards before people will be able to activate their tablets.
This situation has been an absolute mess. Knowing Verizon, the Nexus 7 LTE will be replaced by the time it’s certified. And worst of all, this ordeal is just hurting customers. If I were you, I wouldn’t really be holding my breath waiting for the certification process to end. Maybe you should go get that 200MB of free T-Mobile data for your tablet?
