Today is strongly believed to be the big day that Android 4.4 KitKat arrives, but Galaxy Nexus owners on Sprint or Verizon’s network are already likely preparing for the fact that they will get no KitKat love.
While it’s not KitKat, the good news for Sprint Galaxy Nexus users is that they are at least getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean starting today. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the only Samsung device getting Android 4.3 on Sprint’s network, as the Galaxy S4 officially started rolling out Android 4.3 yesterday as previously expected.
To no one’s surprise, both updates will be rolled out in stages, and could take several weeks before the update hits all users.
For the Galaxy S4, we can expect both Android 4.3 and a new Samsung Premium suite that includes new TouchWiz improvements and Galaxy Gear support. On the other hand, the only changed currently listed for the Galaxy Nexus is a bump up to stock Android 4.3.
Getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on a Nexus device isn’t exactly that impressive thanks to KitKat’s impending arrival, but it could be worse. Just ask Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners and they’ll have plenty to say.
For those that are tired of fighting for updates with their Sprint Galaxy Nexus, the rumor mill suggests that you may soon have the opportunity to upgrade to the Nexus 5 - though there’s no guarantees that the upgrade process will be any more timely than we’ve seen with the CDMA version of the Galaxy Nexus.
For more details on the Galaxy Nexus’ update to Android 4.3, head over to Sprint’s community page. If you want to know more about what to expect from the Galaxy S4, you’ll want to hit up Samsung’s support site.
Has anyone received an update for either device yet, if so what do you think so far?
