The PowerUp 3.0 smartphone-controlled paper airplane is a new Kickstarter project that has reached its funding goal of $50,000 with 56 days to go, and it has also surpassed a $150,000 stretch goal that triggers support for Android 4.3 devices – initially it only had support for iOS smartphones and tablets.
The PowerUp 3.0 is a very interesting, yet simple, smart module. All you have to do is to make a paper plane, attached the Smart Module with its special clips, launch the paper plane into the sky and then control it with your smartphone. Various plane designs are supported, as long as you know how to make them.
The PowerUp 3.0 connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 and offers 10 minutes of flight on one charge, having a 180 feet (55 meter) range. The device’s 1000mAh Lithium Polymer battery charges via USB.
In case you want to contribute to the project – which surpassed $230,000 at the time this article was written – you can submit a pledge from $1 to $500. In order to get the PowerUp 3.0 Smart Module, you’ll have to pay at least $30. The device will be shipped to all backers by May, and will be commercially available starting with June.
