While a few devices have come close, no device is fully immune to the rooting itch. You’re happy for the first few weeks, and then you start noticing things. A little lag here, a missing feature there, and you want to make some changes. No, a full ROM flash is too drastic, but a bit of modification with root would be perfect. Sadly, rooting some device can be tough.
The Verizon Galaxy Note 3 has just been released, and despite having a locked bootloader, it isn’t unrootable. In fact, good ol’ designgears and Chainfire have already rooted the device successfully. Unfortunately, it does have the side effect of a full wipe of the device, so you’ll have to make a backup and put it somewhere safe.
Also, don’t forget that rooting will void your warranty, trip your flash counter, and carries the risk of damaging your device. It is possible to brick your phone, causing it to be inoperable, through a silly mistake or a power outage while flashing important files. So if you are to attempt this, be very careful and follow instructions exactly. And do it at your own risk folks.
As with most Samsung devices, the root method will be carried out using a computer with the Odin flashing tool. You’ll need a PC until Heimdall is updated to support the Note 3 for OSX and Linux.
