One questionable Nexus 5 rumor that said the next Google phone will pack a MEMS camera has been officially debunked by the developer of said camera technology.
Without naming names, DigitalOptics said that last week’s reports that claimed the Nexus 5 will come with a MEMS camera were not accurate.
Here’s what the company said about the Nexus 5 in a short press release whose purpose was to announce that it’s actually Oppo the first company to order MEMS cameras modules for a smartphone:
There has been speculation on who would be the first to bring the significant benefits of mems|cam to the mobile imaging market. Last week, several technology news blogs reported that mems|cam was first being brought to market in another smartphone platform. Those reports were inaccurate.
As for Oppo, the company will be the first Android maker to include MEMS cameras in future smartphones, although Digital Optics did not name any of these upcoming handset models in the press release.
