Google Search is making it easier to vet websites with ‘About this result’ cards

The feature is rolling out in the US

When searching for something on Google, you often come across websites you've never visited before. To find out if the source is trustworthy, you can do some additional research via yet another Google search, but the company is looking to make things more comfortable for you. Starting today, you'll see an overflow menu next to most search results that provides additional details on the source you found.

When you tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of a search result, an About this result bottom card will slide up, complete with a big indicator that the feature is still in beta.

Google Home may soon let you restrict access to smart home controls

You might get different tiers of access levels for individual household members soon

Google Home has only ever allowed for a rudimentary all-or-nothing approach when it comes to managing household members. You can either grant someone full access to your smart home devices or none at all. Based on recent UI tweaks, Google is looking to change that and might introduce tiers of different access levels soon.

When you go to the Google Home settings -> Household, you'll get to a list of all people in your home along with the usual option to invite another person.

Next, I have This Is the Police 2, a dark and gritty cop simulator where tough choices matter. GeForce Now officially available for Chrome browser on Windows and Mac

No need for workarounds anymore

Not too long ago, Nvidia brought GeForce Now to Chromebooks by making the streaming service available right in the Chrome browser. Unfortunately, the company limited availability to the Google OS, and to be able to play right in Chrome on other platforms you had to go through a tedious workaround. But that's a thing of the past: Nvidia just made GeForce Now support official for Chrome on Windows and macOS.

New third-party app optimizes popular Twitter client for small screens

It's been almost a decade since Twitter purchased TweetDeck, the third-party client with its multi-column interface that focuses on glanceability and speed above everything else. It used to have an Android app of its own, but it was sunset all the way back in 2013 because Twitter wanted to focus on the desktop version. Enter 2021, and Japanese developer HiSubway has created a third-party client that adds TweetDeck to your Android phone: MarinDeck.

Split-screen Street View finally arrives on Google Maps for Android

You can actually see where you're going now

In the past, if I needed to use Street View, I usually tried to hop on my desktop. While the Street View function in Android's Google Maps did work, it would often be confusing to use, simply because I couldn't see where I was going. Google has finally added a split-view mode for Street View on Android, making the feature a lot easier to use.

To use the split-screen view, simply tap the Street View window when you've found the correct place in Google Maps, then tap the circular expand/condense button that will show up on the bottom right of the Street View.

Cards in Google Discover are showing relevant hashtags for some

Similar to YouTube's implementation

Hashtags are prevalent on many social media platforms these days. With regards to Google's own services, Google+ had hashtag support before it was killed off, and YouTube has had them for nearly three years at this point. Discover is the latest Google service to experiment with hashtags, though it does seem a little unnecessary.
