Google Home app will soon get a much-needed makeover

The Google Home app is a hot mess right now, to say the least. It's primary purpose is to set up new Chromecasts and Google Home speakers, but the company has also added content discovery and other functionality. The app has seen a few visual tweaks in the past, but now the UI is being overhauled to match Google's new Material Design theme.

This is a server-side test discovered by Quinny899 on the XDA Forums - there's no APK that will force the new design to appear.

Instagram adds ability to ask questions in Stories

It seems like Instagram is in the news every other day. Highlights include its new Lite and IGTV apps, though there are several Instagram app tweaks sprinkled all throughout. Now, the Facebook-owned company has added the ability to ask questions in its Stories, a feature I'm surprised wasn't already there.

There are already yes/no polls and emoji sliders (yes, that's a thing) that can be used with questions; the new aspect here is open-ended questions.

Spotify Lite is a 15MB app that's missing a lot of major functionality [APK Download]

These days, a lot of popular apps have lite versions. Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and even Uber now have tiny versions of their main apps, and Spotify is the latest to join in on the fun. Unfortunately, its implementation isn't exactly the greatest, with a lot of crucial features from the main app missing.

Experimental 'Chrome Duplex' UI now has a tweaked address bar and easy tab switching

Google has been working on a new Chrome Android interface for nearly two years now. The first iteration was 'Chrome Home', which moved the address bar to the bottom of the screen. That interface was essentially done, but Google decided to scrap it for unknown reasons. The project was changed to 'Chrome Duplex' in February, with the address bar back at the top and a new toolbar at the bottom (much like Samsung Internet).
