Samsung introduces two new Bluetooth audio products in the Level series

Samsung has been pushing its Level series of audio accessories for the last year or so, with a set of headphones and some Bluetooth speakers going up for sale. And more products have been added recently to flesh out the lineup. Now two more products have been announced, and one of them piqued my interest.

The first product is a new set of wireless headphones, which are basically the original Level On headphones with Bluetooth added into the mix. It features six microphones for noise cancelling and will offer 11 hours of battery life with noise cancelling and 23 just streaming wirelessly. Not bad at all.

The second one is called the Level Link, which allows you to stream music to and from things that don’t originally feature Bluetooth. It can both transmit and receive Bluetooth audio using Bluetooth 3.0 with aptX Low Latency, and even supports sending audio to two Bluetooth devices. A suggested use case is to plug into your TV so you can use Bluetooth headphones, even with a friend. The battery life is rated at six hours of use and 200 hours standby. It’s very reminiscent of the HTC Stereoclip, though with more features and a bigger battery.

The prices for both the devices have not been announced, so you won’t know whether it’s worth buying until a later date. A release date is also absent. But the Level Link is definitely a nifty product. Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

T-Mobile Offering All Customers Access To MLB At Bat Premium Features For Free, Starting May 1

Repeating a promotion offered last year, T-Mobile is giving a big gift to their baseball fan subscribers. MLB's excellent At Bat app has pretty desirable premium features, but they come at a steep price of $20. For T-Mobile subscribers, those premium features are going to be free.

The way it works is that you will have to download the app from T-Mobile's mobile network and complete the sign-up process. Once the app has recognized that you're a subscriber, the premium features should show up for free and you will have no restrictions through the end of the season.

VLC For Android Gets Background Video Playback And A Few Visual Changes In Version 1.3.2

Get a $20 Google Play gift card with purchase of Nexus Player on Amazon

The Nexus Player is a solid choice for a home entertainment hub. Featuring Android TV, you can enjoy plenty of content via many supported apps like Netflix, Hulu, Play Music, and more. And for the occasional streaming, it also supports Google Cast so you can send some videos and music from your phone to the device. The price isn’t bad, either.

Amazon decided to sweeten the deal a little by throwing in $20 of Google Play credit so you can buy some content. You can rent a few movies or install some games (unfortunately the gamepad for playing games is sold separately). It’s a nice bonus, especially considering the price of the Nexus Player is only ~$73 on Amazon with free shipping.

HTC adds RAW support to the One M9

HTC is now pushing out an update to the HTC Camera app that brings in an important new feature: RAW support. Android 5.0 Lollipop brought in system level support for RAW files, but we haven’t seen a large integration of the new format in phones. HTC is looking to advance that by allowing the One M9 to snap photos in RAW format. Unfortunately, other HTC phones are left out, making this a bittersweet piece of news.

What is RAW? RAW files are completely uncompressed and untouched files that come directly from the camera, leaving them free of the compression artifacts that are found in JPEGs. RAW files are almost always used in professional photography, as they leave much more photo data to work with while editing. The downside is that RAW files can be huge, quickly eating up storage space.

The benefit to RAW support is clear, but it will likely be a very niche feature, as most consumers won’t want to trade the saved storage space for better results during editing. Nonetheless, those that use their phone in a manner similar to a DSLR will likely be pleased with the new found freedom in editing.

The update to HTC Camera is rolling out now, but remember that you’ll only be able to use this feature on an HTC One M9.

Android 5.1.1 lands on a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 edge

Android 5.1.1 may not be a big enough release to get its own press release, but that hasn’t kept it out of the news cycle anyway. And for one lucky Galaxy S6 edge owner, looking forward to some new software on their flagship smartphone.

According to a post found within the xda developers forum, an owner of a Galaxy S6 edge on T-Mobile’s network has received the newest Android version. The update supposedly weighed in at 550MB. Perhaps worse news, though, is that when the owner tried to root his Galaxy S6 edge after the update, he had found that his bootloader had been locked.

Android 5.1.1, as of right now, hasn’t been sent out to any Nexus-branded devices just yet, so the update landing on a branded, carrier variant of the Galaxy S6 edge seems strange. But stranger things have happened. Neither T-Mobile or Samsung have made a comment regarding the update, either.
