Nest Wifi routers can now prioritize video conferencing as well as gaming traffic

No more "Everybody stop streaming their Netflix shows, mama's got a Zoom meeting!"

Google's routers are already packed with intelligent features like network stats, manual device prioritization, Wi-Fi pause options, or device grouping — not to mention the integrated smart speaker in the Nest Wifi. To further improve on these options, Google has decided to add the ability to automatically prioritize certain traffic via the Home app, such as video conferencing or gaming.

The ability is starting to roll out as part of the Q4 firmware update to the Google Wifi and the Nest Wifi (v13099.118.19), and you'll need to be on version 2.31 of the Home app.

AutoVoice Assistant Action is back for all supported languages

Google's infamously terrible developer support strikes twice in a year

Google has taken down the Assistant-integrated AutoVoice Action again, for the second time in a year. This time, the company claims the action "promotes content that advocates hate or violence or promotes discrimination," apparently because someone in Germany stringed together a clearly custom command that made the Assistant spout off some hate speech.

For those unfamiliar, AutoVoice lets you use the Assistant to trigger additional commands from external services like Tasker and IFTTT.

Spotify is publicly testing its own version of Stories

Because that just makes perfect sense, right?

It looks like Spotify didn't want to be left out in the cold when Twitter introduced its Snapchat stories clone Fleets. The music streaming service has started publicly testing its own version of stories, an exclusive way for artists and companies to connect with their audience.

YouTube gamer TmarTn discovered stories when he looked for Christmas music. When he opened the yearly Christmas Hits playlist curated by the streaming service, he noticed a new hint on the Spotify profile picture, informing him that he could "tap to see the story," consisting of celebrities sharing their favorite Christmas songs.

Google Fit removes advanced weight training tracking on Wear OS

Fit on Wear OS can't track reps anymore

Google Fit doesn't receive as much attention as it should, but Google gave it a massive redesign earlier this month. The update improved sleep tracking and changed the interface to better match Google's other applications, but it seems there was at least one feature lost in the transition: advanced weight training tracking.

Google Fit falls behind competing services from Samsung, Garmin, Fitbit, and others in many areas, but its ability to accurately tracking weight training reps on Wear OS made it a favorite among some.

Some very lucky Android TV owners can now stream YouTube in 8K

In other news, can someone lend me an 8K TV?

There are 8K Android TVs out there and a decent selection of 8K content on YouTube. But up until recently, the streaming cap on the YouTube app for Android TV was 4K. Not anymore, though.

Version 2.12.08 now brings limited 8K support to Android TVs on version 10 and above. That feature we know for sure.

Changelog revisions took away the mention of HDR support on streams with the .av1 codec — at the moment, we can't confirm the feature's presence — and replaced it with Cast Connect support, which more efficiently integrates Casted content on TVs with local playback controls including the remote, and an improved screen resolution selection menu.
