OnePlus 5 Lands with Great Specs But Not So Affordable Price

The next-generation flagship killer, the OnePlus 5 has arrived. With so much hype building around the phone in the last weeks, we couldn’t wait to lay our eyes on the new product. And at first glance, the OnePlus 5 bares a great similitude to the iPhone 7 Plus.

At least from the back. It has the dual-camera, flash and antenna lines placed in the same position as on Apple’s larger flagship. Even the OnePlus logo seems to be positioned in the same area as the Apple.

Anyway, the OnePlus 5 comes with a list of pretty hefty improvements over its predecessor, but it also costs more. But first let’s take a look at the specs shall we?

OnePlus 5 specs:

  • 5-inch AMOLED display with fullHD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Snapdragon 835 clocked at 2.45GHz
  • 6GB/8GB of LPPDR4 RAM
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage (UFS 2.1)
  • Main 16-megapixel Sony IMX 398 sensor, f/1.7 aperture, EIS, dual LED flash paired with 20-megapixel telephoto Sony IMX 350 sensor with f/2.6 aperture
  • Secondary 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • 3,300 mAh battery (non-removable)
  • Oxygen OS on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat
  • USB Type-C
  • 5mm headphone jack
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC
  • Fingerprint sensor located in the home button
  • Bottom-facing speaker
  • 3 microphones with noise cancellation
  • Dual-SIM
  • 2 x 74.1 x 7.25 mm

While the OnePlus 5 is slimmer than its 7.3 mm predecessor, it also offers a smaller battery compared to the 3,400 mAh power house inside the OnePlus 3T. Luckily the producing company assures us that thanks to the more power efficient chipset and other optimizations, the OnePlus 5 will be able to deliver up to 20% more battery life.

The phone will be sold in Canada and will be compatible with all networks in the country including Rogers, Fido, Bell, Virgin Mobile, Telus, Koodo, Videotron and Freedom Mobile.

The standard “Slate Gray” with 6GB/64GB will be avaialable for $649 CAD, while the 8GB/128GB version in “Midnight Black” will sell for $712 CAD.

OnePlus will open up orders to all customers on June 27.
