OnePlus 3, 3T won’t get major OS updates after Android O

Today OnePlus shed some light on its software update plans for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

In a Q&A posted to its forums, OnePlus has revealed that Android O will be the last Android OS update pushed to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. OnePlus does say that those devices will continue to get security updates for the “foreseeable future,” though.

Speaking of security updates, OnePlus said that it plans to push the August security patches to the OP3 and OP3T soon. Then in a month or two, it’ll release OxygenOS 4.5 to both devices.

OnePlus also touched a bit on its beta plans today. Once Android O is released to the OnePlus 3 and 3T, OnePlus plans to shift its Open Beta Program to the OnePlus 5. So if you’ve got a OnePlus 5 and you enjoy tinkering with new features before they’re released to the public, that’s something to look forward to.

While it’s disappointing to hear that the OnePlus 3 and 3T won’t get any major OS updates beyond Android O, especially since the 3T launched late last year, at least OnePlus is still committed to pushing Android O to those devices.
