You thought that fiery stories about phones catching fire were behind us now that the Samsung Galaxy Note7 has been removed from the market? Well sadly it appears this is not the case.
Another premium Samsung phone is again at the center of this tragic story. It’s the Galaxy S7 – the phone which the Korean tech giant offers as a replacement for ex-Note7 users.
According to a recent report, 34-year old Canadian Amarjit Mann was driving while having his Galaxy S7 phone in his pocket, when he felt the “warmness”. Mann took the phone out of his pocket with the intention of throwing it out, but unfortunately the device exploded in his hand.
Luckily the car’s windows were open, so Mann managed to dispose of the phone. Although he states that for one moment the phone remained glued to his palm. Unable to call for help, Mann drove himself to the hospital to get treated for the third degree burns on his hands.
As you can see in the picture above, they look pretty serious. Mann purchased the Galaxy S7 six months ago, off a local carrier, which instructed him to contact Samsung directly.
Mann says he plans to file a lawsuit against the Korean tech giant and ask for compensation. Doctors told the Canadian mechanic it would take up to 8 to 9 days for his hands to heal. While the Galaxy S7 explosion seems to be an isolated event, it does raise questions over the safety of Samsung products all over again.
