Qualcomm today pulled the veil off its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 835 (no, it’s not the Snapdragon 830) which will go into premium phones in 2017.
Once again the chip giant has partnered up with Samsung to produce the silicone piece. The Snapdragon 835 is Qualcomm’s first chip to be based on Samsung’s 10nm FinFet processes, as the now previous-gen Snapdragon 820 and 821 were based on a 14nm processes.
Qualcomm promises the Snapdragon 835 will be 30% smaller and will offer 27% more performance and 40% less power consumption. The reduce footprint means manufacturers will have more space to fill under the hood. OEMs could choose to add other components or just add a bigger battery.
The new processor comes with Quick Charge 4.0 which Qualcomm claims will deliver 20% faster charging and 30% higher efficiency compared to the previous-generation.
Unlike Quick Charge 3.0, the new Quick Charge is compliant with Google’s new specifications for Type-C charging. It is said that Quick Charge 4.0 should provide around five hours of life on a quick five minute charge.
Expect the Snapdragon 835 to start shipping out in early 2017. Most high-end smartphone coming next year like the Samsung Galaxy S8 will probably come sporting the new 10nm chipset from Qualcomm.
