Motorola announces Moto E5 Play Android Oreo (Go edition)

It has been a few months since Motorola officially unveiled a new series of handsets under the Moto E banner, but now the company is back with yet another option.

Over the weekend, Motorola announced what it calls the Moto E5 with Android Oreo (Go edition). As the title suggests, this is a handset that aims to trim back the specs in favor of a lower price tag. Go edition handsets are designed to offer less RAM –1GB or less– and offer fewer pre-installed apps right out of the gate, as well as apps designed to work on devices with less storage.

The original Moto E5 Play offered a 5.2-inch display, but the Moto E5 Play with Android Oreo (Go edition) actually has a 5.3-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It holds onto the fingerprint reader on the back, though, so owners of the new Go edition variant will still be able to use that biometric security option to unlock their device. The original Moto E5 Play offers 2GB of RAM, so it’s likely that this new version will see that reduced to 1GB.

The Moto E5 Play with Android Oreo (Go edition) is available only in Europe and Latin America for now, and it officially launched on July 14. The starting price is €109.
