While the BlackBerry KEY2 launched not too long ago, and that handset comes preinstalled with Android Oreo on board, there are still BlackBerry KEYone handsets out there in the wild, and BlackBerry wants to get some of those folks running some new software.
The BlackBerry KEYone is running Android 7.1 Nougat, which is certainly starting to feel a bit dated. And BlackBerry hasn’t come out and said when owners should expect to get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo, but at least the arrival of a new beta program signals some important changes coming down the pipe.
BlackBerry sent out emails to folks who are already registered as part of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, informing them that the company is moving their beta platform to Centercode, and that they are opening up an invitation-only beta program for the KEYone and Android 8.0 Oreo.
To get involved, you will need to head over to the new community and go through the sign-up process. Once that’s done, if you are selected for the beta program you will get an email from BlackBerry letting you know you’re in and instructions on what to do next.
Unfortunately, BlackBerry doesn’t provide any dates for an actual public launch of Android 8.0 Oreo for the KEYone, but we appear to be at least one step closer. If you have a KEYone, are you planning on signing up for this beta program?
