Samsung Galaxy S8 Active official with ruggedized frame, 4000mAh battery

There’s another new member of Samsung’s Galaxy S Active family of smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will be available for pre-order from AT&T on August 8th, with a full launch happening August 11th. Pricing will be $28.34 per month for 30 months. The new Galaxy S8 Active will be exclusively available at AT&T “for a limited time.”

AT&T is celebrating the launch of the GS8 Active with a few promos that apply to both the new Galaxy S8 Active and the non-Active Galaxy S8 and S8+:

  • Get a Galaxy S8 free when you add a new line on AT&T Next and add DirecTV
  • Get $500 towards a Samsung TV purchased online when you buy an eligible smartphone on AT&T Next and add DirecTV
  • Get a Samsung Gear S2 for 99-cents or the Gear S3 for $49.99 on a 2-year agreement when you purchase the smartphone on AT&T Next
  • Get up to $200 in credits when you buy the eligible smartphone on AT&T Next and trade in an eligible smartphone

So what makes the Galaxy S8 Active different from the Galaxy S8? Well, the S8 Active has a metal frame and bumper to help protect against drops, as well as a textured backside to give you a better grip. The Galaxy S8 Active also comes with a 4000mAh battery, which is 1000mAh larger than the battery inside the regular Galaxy S8.

Other features of the Galaxy S8 Active include a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display (which appears to lack the curved edges of the Galaxy S8’s screen), a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera, and Bixby support. The Galaxy S8 Active will eb offered in Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold color options.
