BlackBerry KEYone Confirmed to Be Getting Android 8.0 Oreo

Google unveiled Android 8.0 Oreo this week and while the new OS is available to download and install for Google’s family of devices including the Pixels, most Android users are probably wondering: “Will my device get Android Oreo?”

Sure speculations can be made, but until you hear from the manufacturer you can’t really be sure. Well one of the first companies to issue out information about its Android O plans was unexpectedly BlackBerry.

Fan blog CrackBerry reached out to the company to inquire whether the latest BlackBerry KEYone handset will be getting the update. The answer? Yes, it will! So owners of the phones can start to relax.

Currently, the KEYone sits at Android 7.1 Nougat, but BlackBerry confirmed the device will be updated to Android Oreo at some point in the future. We aren’t told when exactly to expect it, but it will probably take a few months before the phone gets updated.

The KEYone is a middle-range phone spec-wise, but manages to shine thanks to the multi-functional QWERTY keyboard living beneath the display.

The handset takes advantage of a 4.5-inch touchscreen display with 1080 x 1620 resolution and a Snapdragon 625 processor under the hood. It ships out with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, as well as a primary 12-megapixel camera with f/2.0, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash.

With Android 8.0 Oreo onboard, the BlackBerry KEYone is bound to get a lot better.
