A few hours ago Google unveiled the next version of Android. And like the majority had anticipated Google ended up naming it Android 8.0 Oreo, not Orellete or Orangina as a bunch of older teasers previously indicated.
As expected Android 8.0 Oreo has landed packed with a series of improvements. Most significantly we’re told the new mobile OS is faster, smarter and more powerful than what we’ve seen so far.
It comes with features such as picture-in-picture, an autofill mode and improved notifications. This year Google is also putting a bigger emphasis on security, so Android 8.0 arrives with something Google Play Protect bundled in – a tool meant to keep your device secure.
Android Oreo users will also notice battery life improvements, as the new OS is supposed to cut down on apps working silently in the background and putting a strain on the battery.
Not long after announcing Android 8.0 Oreo, Google made the OTA available for download for the devices included in the beta program which means the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel C and Nexus Player.
If you’ve previously enrolled in the beta program then you’re good to go, if not you can still do so right now.
